Have
you ever looked a convicted felon in the eye? Confront them with
their failures and if they maintain eye contact, you’ll
see something very distinct, guilt. The majority of criminals
have this, some have buried it, but most of the time you’ll
see the shame in their eyes for the things they have done.
Did
they plan for their life to go this way? Probably not, but the
choices they made brought them here anyway. But just because they
made some poor life decisions do not mean they’re hopelessly
lost. It just means that it’s going to take a little more
than some prison time to change them for good.
Car
Angel realized the need for a good reformation movement years
ago, and ever since then, we have been providing the prisons in
the U.S. with books that inspire such a change.
Instead
of telling criminals what they already believe, that they’re
worthless, our books tell them that they DO have the ability to
do good in the world. Inmates are told that they are not a lost
cause; instead, they can choose to change the path they’re
on and become productive members of society.
200,000
new books made their way into the prisons in May of 2005 and every
year the response comes in hundreds of letters of appreciation
from inmates and chaplains alike.
A
section of one of our books, Death Sentence, is featured below.
It is books just like this one that have caused the great changes
we have seen in the prisons. Taxpayers save an estimated $160,000,000
a year due to our books. We will continue to distribute them for
as long as they are making a difference, and even after, in the
hopes that one day, we can cut through the guilt and the hardened
hearts and help inmates discover another part of themselves-the
part that can do good.
